Transforming sewing remnants into gorgeous jewelry

While growing up in the beautiful island of Mauritius, Yajvi was deeply moved by her grandmother’s hard work to hand-sew stunning dresses and by the love and care she put into her work. While the dresses were beautiful, there was also a lot of fabric scrap that used to get produced during this design and cutting process. Not to forget, the leftover pieces were beautiful satin and premium cotton in solids and prints. After all, they were meant for sewing elegant party dresses! Inspired by her grandmother to create something beautiful coupled with a deep passion to do her part to protect the environment, Yajvi learnt the art of hand-sewing from her mother. Transformations sometimes start with the simplest of things. Michela, who lives on the beautiful island of Mauritius, was  travelling on a bus when she casually wrapped the bus ticket around her finger to make a ring. To her surprise, the ring stayed on her finger for the entire day. This simple memory got etched into her thoughts, and together with her deep passion for preserving the environment, an idea was born. Michela knew at that point that she wanted to make beautiful products that would bring people joy by repurposing and reusing paper that was otherwise going to be thrown away. The Bracelet from worn out Life Vests

This organization upcycles the material from the life jackets that refugees wore on their traumatic journey in the Mediterranean Sea. As the life jackets they wore are too worn out, they are not reusable by others. These jackets usually become a part of landfills polluting the environment or get washed away from the shores into the sea, destroying marine life.
